Thanks To Martyn Ward for Report

Upton v Batley Boys Yorks Premier League Sat 27th September

Upton fielding a much changed team showed some considerable strength of character to come back from 0-12 defecit to record a valuable emphatic victory over premier league newcomers Batley at Quarry Lane on Saturday. The opening exchanges were evenly matched with the 2 defences dominating matters but with Ben Spencer going close on 2 occasions. The early season form by Steve Froggett continued however as he took control of the match with a powerful run continued by the similarly impressive Dave Dunwell and finished by Ben Spencer Steve Beal adding the conversion 6-12 In a repeat of the first try Froggett again made the initial inroads to allow Spencer the position for his power to give Upton his second and their equaliser as Beal again added the points 12-12. Upton were never behind again as sub Scott Boughen mad an immediate impact taking a quick tap and powering over for a try c Beal 18-12 Click for Larger Image Click for Larger Image
Ross Johnson completing the first half scoring speeding on to a neat pass from Beal to go in at the posts to make the extras a formality for a kicker of Beals talent 24-12
Half time
Steve Froggett again set the field position with an amazing crowd pleasing charge downfield shoving would tacklers about like rag dolls, Jon MacDermott enjoying one of his best performances in an Upton shirt cleverly nipping down the short side end giving Alan Thomson a walk in at the corner. 28-12 MacDermott then created a chance for Froggett to gather a neat chip high in the air before barging the full back out of the way for a deserved try Beal this time supplying the touchline kick 34-12. It was all Upton now with Beal working a set scrum move with Johnson and the backs to allow Frasier Winks to gift Thomson his second Bea again converting 40- 12 Froggett added his second as it seemed the whole team handled and off loaded 44-12 Dave Dunwell rampaged downfield to allow Froggett to complete the chance for his hat trick taking his tally to 7 in 2 games Beal converting to take Upton to the half century 50-12 As Upton understandably took their foot off the gas Batley were able to register a consolation try 50-18 but Upton were quick to extend their lead as Beal broke from deep with a clever dummy he fed the supporting Dunwell who was hauled down short but from the quick restart Boughen charged over for his brace 56-12. the scoring was completed as Beal and MacDermott worked a move for Dunwell to power in for a popular try Beal again added the goal to finish the score at 62-12 Best in a good team effort after the fist 10 minutes were Froggett who took the man of the match honours but he was hotly pursued by MacDermott, Beal, Spencer and Dave Dunwell. Next week Upton visit what is sure to be a stronger Batley outit in the next round of the Yorkshire Cup
