Under 10's Improving

Upton U10's showed considerable improvement from last week's display again agaist Townville at Quarry Lane. There was hard running from Graeme Ford, Etienne Welsh Charlie Bishop and Jack Swain, whilst Thomas Grey got through a lot of work against opponents that towered above him. Euan Mears weighed in with an all round effort resulting in 2 tries, and Joe Dolman, the returning Nathan Newbound and Bailey Ward all scored Ward showing great strength for his try down the touchline. Townville's greater size proved to be the decisive factor though as they ran out winners by a small margin. the Townville coaching staff nominated Thomas Grey for the man of the match award for his detemination and courage in the match.

Upton under 10’s v Townville

Upton Under 10’s began their season with a good performance against a very big Castleford outfit on Saturday. Although being beaten there was enough for the coaching staff and the players to be pleased with. Skipper Joe Dolman weighed in with a couple of tries supported well by the strong running Charlie Bishop who also scored as did Etienne Welsh who capped his hard running performance with a score. Against much bigger opponents great courage in defence was shown by all the team but particularly the diminutive Thomas Grey, JJ Morris and Graeme Ford whilst strong running by Jack Wakefield and by Ford was impressive to the eye as the large crowd enjoyed a competitive contest. The laurels were gathered however by an all round show by Euan Mears who crowned a top tackling performance with 4 tries and a couple of goals Joe Dolman and Charlie Bishop also added a conversion apiece to complete the Upton scoring.

Upton have the chance to avenge the defeat as they entertain Townville again next week at 10.30 on Saturday the 4th October.

Coaches Martyn Ward and Elaine Dawson are on the look out for more players for the Under 8 and 10 teams and would like to invite any potential players/parents interested to free coaching at Quarry Lane every Thursday at 6. or call Martyn on 07716 728496
